DevOps Engineer

StackAdapt

-

From 2024 to 2025, I joined StackAdapt as a DevOps Engineer after being swept up in the massive layoffs at Unity Technologies. It was a rough moment, but it pushed me into a role where I could lean into my passion for automation and take my programming skills to the next level, picking up Golang along the way. I started by enhancing shared Go libraries and applications, like building AMI cleanup scripts in AWS Lambda, refining configuration libraries, and debugging and optimizing code for our staging environment. Getting hands-on with Golang was a game-changer, and it felt great to make those processes slicker for the team.

I also automated our staging infrastructure using Terragrunt to manage AWS resources—EC2, RDS Aurora, Route 53, ALB, and S3—while using Ansible for service bootstrapping, handling cert renewals, config management, and health checks, all tied to AWS dynamic inventory. I set up integration tests in GitHub Actions with custom container services and Docker-in-Docker workflows to keep things rock-solid. On top of that, I tackled daily DevEx team tasks like tweaking GitHub Actions, troubleshooting AWS issues, and doing code reviews. That year was about bouncing back, leveling up my coding skills with Golang, and keeping the dev pipeline humming while supporting the team’s day-to-day grind.

Cloud Infrastructure Engineer

Unity Technologies

-

From 2022 to 2024, I joined Unity Technologies as a Cloud Infrastructure Engineer after Ziva Dynamics, where I’d been an IT Coordinator, was acquired by Unity. The move let me continue the work I loved but also gave me a chance to pivot back to my true passion—cloud infrastructure and Linux systems, something I’d been hooked on since my days as a Linux System Administrator in Iran.

At Unity, I hit the ground running, setting up a dual-environment Jenkins on AWS ECS Fargate, all managed with Terraform, which cut costs by 30% by using containers instead of EC2 instances. I also optimized the Thinkbox Deadline render farm with AWS spot instances, slashing render costs by 60%. To make that even smoother, I coded a custom Python plugin for Thinkbox Deadline to fire up on-demand instances with Auto Scaling Groups.

I implemented AWS Direct Connect with high-availability routing and automatic failover to keep our network solid. I also built a custom Terraform module to tie Okta into AWS SSO, making access management a breeze. On top of that, I worked on distributed system event handling using AWS Lambda in Python with SQS Dead Letter Queues and SNS for reliable processing. I deployed Kubeflow on EKS with Terraform for ML workflows and scripted resource cleanup that saved over $10,000 a month in AWS costs by catching and removing unused resources. Those two years were about diving back into my passion for cloud engineering, automating complex systems, and driving big wins for efficiency and cost savings at Unity.

IT Coordinator

Ziva Dynamics

-

From 2020 to 2022, I landed my first official full-time gig in Canada as an IT Coordinator at Ziva Dynamics, and it was a whirlwind of getting stuff done. I kicked things off by rolling out anti-malware solutions, setting up Sophos Intercept X and phishing defenses to keep our systems secure. I also took on the SOC2 compliance process, navigating the nitty-gritty to make sure we met all the security standards—definitely a big responsibility, but I got it across the finish line.

On top of that, I implemented endpoint management for over 50 devices in a mixed environment, keeping remote work setups running smoothly. I planned and rolled out workstation drive encryption using Group Policy and BitLocker, locking down data across the board. And for a major project, I built a brand-new onsite server room from the ground up—racks, switches, firewall, VLANs, and wireless access points all installed and configured. Those two years were about jumping into the deep end, tackling diverse IT challenges, and proving I could handle the real-world demands of my first full-time role in Canada.

Support Specialist (Internship)

Nucleus Networks

In 2020, fresh off completing my studies at BCIT, I jumped into an internship as a Support Specialist at Nucleus Networks, which was part of my final capstone project. This role was a crash course in the Canadian tech scene, helping me adapt my skills to the local market and get a feel for the working culture. I supported a range of systems—Microsoft 365, Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange, and Cisco Meraki routers—getting hands-on with real-world IT challenges. I also worked with tools like ConnectWise Manage, Automate, and IT Glue, learning how to keep operations smooth and organized. That internship was a game-changer, blending my technical know-how with practical experience and setting me up to hit the ground running in the industry.

Network and IT Infrastructure Tutor (Part-time)

Tutor Doctor

-

From 2019 to 2020, while I was studying at BCIT to gain some Canadian education experience and pave the way for new career opportunities, I worked part-time as a Network and IT Infrastructure Tutor with Tutor Doctor. My role was all about helping students wrap their heads around Networking Infrastructure and operating systems like Windows Server and Linux. I broke down complex topics into bite-sized, easy-to-grasp lessons, tailoring my approach to each student’s needs. Whether it was explaining network protocols or diving into Linux commands, I loved seeing those “aha” moments when things clicked. That year was about balancing my own studies while sharing my tech know-how, helping others build their skills as I worked toward my next career step.

System Administrator

Cloud Infrastructure Provider

-

From 2018 to 2020, I was a System Administrator at a Cloud Infrastructure Provider, diving deep into the Linux world to keep our systems running smoothly. One of my big projects was swapping out Redis as the caching system for OpenStack, using Ansible to make the transition clean and efficient. It was a tricky switch, but nailing it felt like a win.

I also designed a robust 200TB Ceph storage cluster that served as the backbone for our OpenStack cloud. This setup was built to be rock-solid and highly available, handling both object and block storage like a pro. Another key part of my job was writing bash scripts to streamline tasks—deploying OpenStack in production, hardening CentOS 7, prepping Ceph storage, and integrating with Gitlab for better workflows.

Plus, I took care of system upgrades and migrations, keeping everything current and running without a hitch. Those two years were all about building dependable Linux systems, automating the tough stuff, and ensuring our cloud infrastructure could tackle anything thrown at it.

IT Technical Support

JTI

-

From 2017 to 2018, I was an IT Technical Support specialist at JTI, tackling some hefty projects. One of my proudest moments was leading the switch of over 200 laptops from Linux to Windows across more than 15 cities. It was a logistical challenge, but I pulled it off smoothly, ensuring everyone could keep working without any disruption.

I also took on a huge inventory task, gathering data on over 2,000 devices across 30+ branches nationwide. This wasn’t just about collecting numbers—it paved the way for a new asset management system, streamlining everything. Plus, I oversaw a server room upgrade, installing five new rack-mounted servers, two NAS units, and UPS systems to keep things running reliably.

The big finale? I migrated a file server with over 80TB of data from Linux to a NAS device without a single minute of downtime. That year was all about managing major transitions, keeping systems solid, and ensuring the tech matched the company’s needs.

Network Administrator

Network Solutions

-

From 2014 to 2017, I was a Network Administrator at a company selling SOHO network devices and starting to get into passive stuff like cables. One of my main gigs was training over ten agents—basically resellers—who needed to know our products inside out to sell them right. I ran training sessions on networking basics, breaking down the techy stuff so they could explain it clearly to customers. It was cool seeing them get the hang of it and feel confident pitching our gear.

On top of that, I was in charge of product testing, putting our devices and cables through their paces. I brought in new testing methods, using better tools and real-world setups, which made a big difference. We ended up speeding up user support by 50% and cutting costs by 20%. Those three years were all about helping the agents sell better and making sure our products were solid, from testing to customer hands.
